What is Community Transport?
Community Transport (CT) is the term used to describe a range of not-for-profit group transport services in urban and rural areas developed by local people.
What’s special about Community Transport?
- It provides local, needs-based transport solutions.
- It is available to those who need it most.
- It puts the passenger first.
- It reduces isolation. People can get out and about.
- It’s about improving quality of life for local people.
- It links people to resources, services and leisure facilities that are often taken for granted by the rest of us.
- It’s rewarding!
- It can be fun.
The importance of CT goes way beyond the basic role of getting people from A to B. The combined efforts of volunteer drivers, organisers and committee members can make a real difference to the lives of those they help. And that can make the community itself a much better place to live in.
Why do people volunteer?
People volunteer and become involved for a variety of reasons. You may want to take an active role within the community, repaying support you or a relative or friend has received. You may be looking for new friends. Or it may be new skills you’re after – getting ready for a new career.
